My life was forever changed when I lost my child—it felt like a wrecking ball had smashed through my world, leaving me shattered and empty. Returning to work, I felt like a ghost, going through the motions with a cloud hanging over me and a hole in my heart.

Ironically, I was employed at a mental health facility, equipped with a master’s degree in Social Work from USC, and over 10 years counseling and helping others. But no amount of education or training could prepare me for the deep pain of loss. That rude awakening reshaped my life, forcing me to confront the raw realities of grief and to discover a path forward, one step at a time.

Through this journey, I’ve learned that healing isn’t about “moving on”; it’s about courageously embracing life again. Alongside my husband, I found purpose as a volunteer firefighter serving my community and in hospice work, helping others through their darkest moments. I’ve also supported couples struggling to build families of their own through adoption.

Today, I’m blessed with two incredible daughters who bring light back into my life. My journey—marked by grief, disability, and unexpected challenges—has taught me the strength of resilience and the power of hope.
